The "Repro" Eames is broken!

Someone asks me recently about buying a reproduction to add to his collection. The reproductions are every where, and they cost only a fraction of the real mccoy. An ID from a popular design house in Singapore told me, the Eames Lounge Chair is very popular, but how many people would pay the thousands for the real thing. Of course they buy the "fakes", he continued to tell me that a couple bought a fake Eames Lounge Chair for SGD2000, but that chair soon broke within a year. The Eames's back came off. The couple then bought another repro. The reproductions are usually manufactured in China, they may look good from the outside, but the quality is not there.

When you buy a Herman Miller or a Vitra, you are paying for quality. Each piece is assembled, signed off and packed by a craftsman and his signature is on that piece of furniture. You can feel the privilege of opening up a new Herman Miller box, and each piece of furniture comes with it's certificate of authencity.

The Eames Lounge Chair made in the 50s and 60s are still in the living rooms of many American families. Each Herman Miller furniture can last for a long time.

This Eames Rocker has been with me for 8 years. It has a purple upholstery covering the entire inner shell. I am not sure what year it was produced, but I guess it is at least 10 years old. It has a very old Herman Miller label on it, but that does not describe the year it was produced. The Rocker these days do not come with the upholstery any more.

Here is the Nelson Sunflower Clock. This is produced by Vitra and the way they bent the pieces of wood together to form this clock is fantastic. This clock has been with me since 2003 and after 3 moves, it's still working fine. Instead of spending on a custom built wall feature, the clock itself can be a feature.

I have a brand new piece at SGD 1800.

Here are some pictures of the LTR by Herman Miller. I use 2 of the LTR small low table as a side table beside my bed. Mine is in white with chrome metal legs. 3 types of surface is availale, in white or black laminates or in original veneer. The legs comes in 3 option, chrome metal, white or black metal base. As usual, it comes with a certificate of authencity. I have a brand new LTR in veneer still in a box for any interested collectors.

Just got a brand new 60" George Nelson Bench in Maple by Herman Miller. Can let it go at SGD 1700. Comes with original certificate. It's really a cool and nice looking bench and it's available in 3 different sizes 48", 60" and 72". Recently, Herman Miller produce new versions of this bench with chrome-plated metal legs and cushions covered in felt or leather. First saw this bench in the Fogg Museum, in Boston, MA, USA.

They come with the original Herman Miller Certificate of Autheticity.  I bought them from Herman Miller last year and they are now with me in Singapore. I would like to sell them for SGD 1850 each.
